When I Grow Up...

When Twelve grows up, it wants to be a famous YouTuber. Twelve has always dreamed of becoming this big star creating videos of all the games it likes to play. Creativity and technical skills are important to have and that can be learned, but of course with numbers. Twelve is excellent with counting all of his future followers as well as money. Twelve also wants to invent apps for others to download. Especially apps that have something to do with his number. Twelve feels if it creates an app that requires everyone to follow it's number, it would never be forgot. As you can see, Twelve is a very tech savvy number always looking for the big bucks and fame.

Historical Date

In the 12 month (December) lots of historical events happened.

Word Problem

A string is 8 inches long. The art teacher asked her students to cut their string into 2/3 inches long for their project. How many pieces can be made from the 8-inch string ?

Solution

Since you are trying to find out how many 2/3 there are in 8, it is a division of fractions problem. So, divide 8 by 2/3.

8 ÷ 2/3 = 8/1 ÷ 2/3 = 8/1 × 3/2 = 24/2 = 12

Therefore, you can make 12 pieces of string for your art project.

About the Author

I chose the number twelve because its one of my lucky numbers. When I was younger, I realized that when I add the letters from my first name (7) and the letters from my last name (5) they equal to twelve. Since then, I made twelve one of my lucky numbers.

Working on this project was fun and a creative way to show off my favorite number. It was also a great way to show some of the math skills we learned in class.

I really liked researching the historical date. Researching things that have happened on the month or date was interesting because so many things happened on these dates that I had no idea. I also liked creating my cartoon character. It was fun!

The only thing I disliked was not having a section on whatever we want to say about our number. It would have been cool to write and show random things like sports and pictures of the number twelve. Overall, I liked this project.
