Socket 479 is a special socket for Pentium Mobile and Celeron Mobile CPUs. I think I have a feeling I’ve mixed some PPGA478’s in here too – but it’s mainly to separate it from their desktop Socket 478 counterparts.

Fairly common CPU of the “higher performing” laptops of the Pentium 4 days.
Intel Celeron M 380 SL8MN 1.60Ghz
A memorable CPU for me, because this one powered the budget laptop I went to uni with. It was slow, warm and cheap. Just as expected.

A CPU found in older budget laptops, another hot one, and not as speedy as its clock might suggest.
Were these mobile chips actually Pentium III based as opposed to the then current P4 designs?

Nice to hear from you – and yes, they were termed Pentium-M and were Pentium 3-architecture based as Netburst just couldn’t achieve any good levels of power efficiency. Some desktop replacements did try using desktop P4 chips only to suffer badly from overheating issues and were very unpopular with consumers.
