In a statement released earlier this month, California's Office of Traffic Safety Department announced a plan to crack down on drunk driving while also promoting a new mobile app that designated drivers can use for free appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks at select local bars.
The crackdown and app announcement happened Friday, Dec. 12.
During the crackdown period, which runs until Jan. 1, California Highway Patrol and "over 200 participating law enforcement agencies throughout California will be conducting increased sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols," according to the release.
The app, called DDVIP, offers exclusive offers and discounts to sober designated drivers throughout participating restaurants and bars in California.
The app can be downloaded on both Android and iPhones. Click the gallery above for a quick walk-through of the app and visit DDVIP's website to download it.
