Mastercam is used by machinists, CNC programmers and engineering students.

Students will mostly use a laptop for Mastercam and the problem with this is that Mastercam, like most professions CAD/CAM software is built to run on a Desktop PC with a dedicated graphics card.

Running Mastercam on a laptop will work, but a common issue that students run into is that Mastercam won’t startup properly and will freeze.

To fix this, close down Mastercam or restart the laptop.

Now click the start button and browse to the Mastercam folder and click on Advanced Configuration.

Click on the Graphics option and set Hardware Acceleration to “Disabled”

Close down Advanced Configuration and open up Mastercam.

There may be other things that stop Mastercam from opening up, but this is by far the most common.
