On the 23rd, the 2018 League of Legends World Championship group draws have been revealed.

The draw consists of sixteen teams that are divided into four groups of four. While the first 3 spots for Groups A, B, C, and D are finalized, the remainder spots will be taken from Play-In teams. The Groups will be complete after the final Play-In Knockout Stage Game on October 7th.

Group A consists of Flash Wolves, Afreeca Freecs, and Phong Vũ Buffalo. Flash Wolves, also known as the ‘Korean slayers’, have once again made their foot onto the World stage. Following this, Afreeca Freecs and Phong Vũ Buffalo make their first ever debut on the World Championship stage.

Group B has Royal Never Give Up (RNG), Gen.G, and Team Vitality. RNG’s presence brings a whole different atmosphere to the group. Interesting fact is that for 3 years in a row, Gen.G has met RNG in the group stage. Having to face against these two powerhouse teams, Team Vitality comes into Worlds as the second seed team in EU.

kt Rolster, which proudly won the LCK Summer Finals, was put into Group C. Their opponents were picked as MAD Team, which kt faced at Rift Rivals, and NA LCS Spring + Summer Champions, Team Liquid.

While having no Korean teams, Group D consists of Fnatic, 100 Thieves, and Invictus Gaming. With the longtime tradition of Fnatic winning both Spring and Summer titles of the EU LCS, it will be interesting to see the clash between NA LCS and LPL teams with Fnatic.

This year’s World Championships will be held in South Korea again after 2014. Starting with the opening game on October 1st, the last and final match of the 2018 World Championships will be held on November 3rd (Saturday). In addition, unlike 2014 Worlds when games were held in Taiwan and Singapore, all competitions will take place in Korea this year from Play-Ins to Finals.
