With DOOM Eternal (the sequel to DOOM 2016) right around the corner, I will be doing a review on DOOM 2016. After two years since the last time I played DOOM, I decided to replay the campaign for the second time. DOOM is a first-person shooter game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. In this review, I am referring to DOOM 2016, not the original DOOM published in December of 1993. DOOM is an action-packed first-person shooter game released in May 2016 on Xbox One, PS4, Microsoft Windows and the upcoming gaming console the Google Stadia.
Players take the role of an unnamed space marine (later known as Doom Slayer) as he rips, shreds and tears apart demonic forces that have been unleashed by the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) on a future-set colonized Mars. Researchers at the UAC Facility have attempted to draw energy from Hell, a dimension inhabited by demons, to solve an energy crisis happening on Earth. The UAC organizes several expeditions into Hell, with the UAC bringing along captive demons and artifacts. Among the artifacts is a sarcophagus containing the Doom Slayer (the main character you play as), who the demons imprisoned after his earlier rampage through Hell. The demons escape captivity causing chaos throughout the UAC, Hayden (a worker for the UAC) releases Doom Slayer in hopes to settle the chaos. In this game, you fight three main bosses, the Cyberdemon, Hell Guard and Spider Mastermind along with several types of demons. The demon types are the Mancubus, Baron of hell, Cacodemon, Cyber-mancubus, Demon, Harvester, Hell Knight, Hell Razer, Imps, Possessed demons (over seven types), Revenant, Spectre and finally the Summoner. Some Demons have more health than others; for example, the Revenant has more health than an Imp and a Baron of Hell has more health than a Revenant.
DOOM is one of the best video games I have ever played. The campaign is nothing but action and intensity, you never get bored. With a campaign being over 13 hours with non-stop action, I give this game a 9/10. If you like FPS (first-person shooter) single-player games, I highly recommend DOOM 2016.
