TOKYO (TR) – The accolades keep coming for adult video (AV) star Ai Uehara.
In March, the 21-year-old took the Best Picture prize at the Sky PerfecTV! AV Awards for her role in a 120-minute lesbian feature.
One month later, reports Sankei Sports (April 24), she topped that, receiving the Platinum award for “top sexy actress” at the DMM Adult Awards 2014.
“I made my debut four years ago,” said Uehara during the proceedings, held on April 24 in front of 1,000 fans at the Shibuya-AX concert hall. “At that time, I was an unknown but I did my best to make a name for myself. To my fans, I would like to thank them for their support.”
A combination of Internet fan voting and sales data for titles distributed by DMM in 2013 was used to determine the winners.
Shunka Ayami, 20, took the Gold award (in the same “sexy” category), while the Best New Actress prize went to 27-year-old Marina Shiraishi, who took the same title at the Sky PerfecTV! event one month before.
Also walking away with prizes were veteran starlets Kirara Asuka (25) and Akiho Yoshizawa (30).
The highlight of the evening was an appearance by Yuma Asami, the recipient of a special commendation. Early last year, the former star shocked the industry and her fans with revelations that she was battling ovarian cancer.
“Last year, I was not in a position get an award for a variety of reasons,” said Asami, who released her autobiography ( “Restart: Believe In Yourself”) earlier this month. “Without the support of my staff and all the fans I would not be here now.”
